We have been supplying and fitting decking to gardens throughout Guernsey for many years and came across this article on timbertechuk.co.uk explaining how to keep your composite decking clean. Take a look and see what you think…

One of the biggest advantages that composite decking has over traditional types of decking and one of the main reasons why it has become so popular amongst homeowners is the extremely low-maintenance properties that it offers.

Its minimal upkeep requirements mean that when it comes to cleaning, it doesn’t take much effort at all to remove any dirt that may have built up and keep looking good. But when it comes to deep cleaning your composite deck, what exactly is required?

How to deep clean composite decking

So, you’ve had a stunning composite deck installed in your garden and have been getting good use out of it ever since. But now you’ve noticed some dirt that has built up in a few areas and wondering if it requires a deep clean to get rid of?

Well, the answer to that question is no! Thanks to the state-of-the-art manufacture of composite decking and the innovative processes used to create the boards, deep cleaning is never required.
All that is needed is a simple wipe-clean, using warm, soapy water and bang, the dirt is gone. This is often the most suitable method of cleaning when you notice areas of grime that need attention, however, if you have areas on your deck that can’t be cleaned using this method, a power wash should do the trick.

Power washing your decking

  • Before washing your composite deck, brush away leaves and other debris with a broom.
  • Use a fan tip nozzle and a suitable cleaning product.
  • Do not exceed a maximum pressure of 1500 psi.
  • Spray in the same direction as the grain on your boards.
  • Follow the recommended safety precautions for your pressure washer.

By following these tips, a simple and quick power wash of your deck is all that’s required for it to be looking brand new once again. No staining, painting or countless hours on your hands and knees scrubbing each board will ever be necessary.
